COMPAQ Commercial Monitors Windows INF/ICM Software Ver 2.00 Rev. A OVERVIEW Softpaq SP16786 contains the INF and ICM color files used for configuring Compaq Commercial Monitors under Microsoft Windows 95, 98, ME, NT 4.0 and 2000. PRODUCTS SUPPORTED IN THIS SOFTPAQ COMPAQ S500, S510, S700, S710, S900, S910, V40, V45, V50, V55, V500, V570, V70, V75, V700, V710, V90, V900, V1000, V1100, P50, P70, P75, P700, P710, P900, P910, P110, P1100, P1210, P1610, TFT450, TFT500, TFT5000, TFT5000S, TFT5004, TFT5005, TFT5010, TFT7000, TFT7010, TFT8000 and TFT8020 Flat Panel Monitors. DESCRIPTION For Microsoft Windows 95, 98 and ME users, softpaq SP16786 will copy the Compaq Commercial Monitor INF file "Cpq_mon.inf" and all of the ICM color profiles for the above supported monitors into the appropriate Microsoft Windows folders. For Microsoft Windows 2000, SP16786 will present a list of the following monitors for the user to select in order to properly install their digital signature files: V570, V710, P700, P710, P910, P1210 and TFT7010 Only one monitor from the above list can be selected at a time in order to install properly into Windows 2000. In addition to selecting a monitor from the above list, a Windows 2000 specific INF "Cpq_mon2k.inf" will automatically be copied to the appropriate Windows folder in order to provide support for all of the other non-digitally signed Compaq Commercial monitors. SP16786 will also remove any previous(old) Compaq Commercial Monitor INF files in order to minimize duplicate monitor names that would appear inside of the Windows Display control panel. It is recommended that the user un-install any previous Compaq Commercial INF/ICM software that may have been previously installed through the Installshield setup programs. This can be performed through the "Add/Remove Programs" control panel. The INF file designates software and defines monitor resources used by Microsoft Windows 95, 98, ME and 2000 to ensure monitor compatibility with your computer's graphics adapter. The ICM color profile is used in conjunction with graphics programs to provide color matching consistency from monitor screen to printer. The ICM profile is not operating system specific and is activated from within graphics software programs that have this feature. The ICM color profile is written in accordance with the International Color Consortium (ICC) Profile Format Specification. PLUG AND PLAY COMPATIBILITY All of the above supported COMPAQ monitors are Windows Plug and Play compatible. These monitors will work correctly without the INF file being installed. With the monitors attached, and without the INF file installed, Microsoft Windows 95, 98, ME and 2000 will recognize your COMPAQ monitor as a "Plug and Play Monitor." The correct resolutions will still be available in the Windows Display control panel. Note that COMPAQ monitor Plug and Play compatibility is dependent on several items: a) The computer's graphics card must be VESA DDC2 compliant. b) The monitor must be connected directly to the graphics card. Plug and Play does not work through the separate BNC type connectors nor through distribution buffers/boxes. MICROSOFT WINDOWS NT 4.0 INF AND ICM INSTALLATION NOTES This softpaq will install the INF and ICM files on Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 systems, but Windows NT 4.0 does not currently use the monitor INF file. Display Resolutions in Windows NT are controlled by the computer's graphics adapter. There is no Monitor selection unless the graphics adapter includes this option with its own proprietary video drivers (which do not ship with Windows). The ICM color profile file can be used within Windows NT and is activated from within the graphics programs that have this feature. MICROSOFT WINDOWS 2000 INF INSTALLATION NOTES Microsoft Windows 2000 supports Digital Signature technology for all of its software drivers. Currently there are only seven COMPAQ Commercial monitors (V570, V710, P700, P710, P910, P1210 and TFT7010) that have digital signatures. For all other Compaq Commercial monitors, you may see a "Digital Signature Not Found" message appear after Microsoft Windows recognizes your monitor. The INF software WILL STILL WORK with Microsoft Windows 2000. Just Click on the "Yes" button to continue the monitor installation. For more information about Digital Signatures, go to Microsoft's website at: http://www.microsoft.com/hwtest/signatures UNINSTALLATION Uninstalling this softpaq can be achieved through the Microsoft Windows "Add/Remove Programs" Control Panel. The name for this softpaq in the "Add/Remove Programs" window will be "Compaq Commercial Monitor INF/ICM Software 2.00". Copyright (c)2001 Compaq Computer Corporation. All Rights Reserved.
