About
Stitchihatchie Creek Bloodhounds
We
started out with bloodhounds when a friend of mine gave me
one he couldn't keep any longer. When I got him he weighed 65lbs.
I wormed him and started him on vacinations and a good diet.
Soon he weighed over 100 lbs. We had him for many years and
he passed away a few years back. Then I looked for other
bloodhounds and it was hard to find them. So I decided to
start breeding them and try to do my part to keep the breed
available for the people that love them as much as I do.
I
found some breeders and purchased some puppies. I bought two
females that have a long list of man trailers and a couple of
champions on their pedigree. .
I
looked for a male for another year and a half to find what I
was looking for. He has several champions on his pedigree. He
is real big and very smart. When he was small he would trip
over his feet when he tried to run. I
am glad he grew out of that.
After
a couple of years we decided to add to our kennel. We started
looking for another female and not wanting to get one with
the same bloodlines, I started a data base to keep track of
the linage of my dogs and of puppies I was considering for
purchase. I now have about 250 dogs listed on this data base.
I
decided on a red female that I purchased from Ohio. Ruby is a
sweet girl and has turned out to be a great mother. She has
beautiful puppies with long ears and plenty of wrinkles. But
she has only had red puppies.
Later
a friend from south Georgia had to females that she decided
to sell. They were about two years old and would fit into my
breeding program, so I purchased them. These two dogs have
turned out to be very beautiful and Eli has had one litter of
puppies.
Then
we added another male last December. Jethro is taller then
Okie but not as stocky. Having two males allows us to be able
to keep puppies for breedng with out inbreeding or line
breeding. We can take the best of the litter and breed it to
one from the other blood line.
Currently
we have 7 bloodhounds and we try to plan our breeding to give
us the best puppies possible.
